Regulation Update

Regulation UpdateTwo pieces of news circulating today from the Homes and Communities Agency that you may find interesting.

Firstly, the regulator has published a review of consumer regulation in 2012/13, during which time they received over 400 complaints and carried out 20 detailed investigations. You can find the full report on the HCA's website. Link

The second piece of news is that the regulator is now displaying a 'watch list' on their website. This is a list of organisations whose regulatory assessments have raised concerns about risks. Link

More information will be provided in the December edition of our newsletter, which is due out next week. If you are not already on our circulation list, email or call Linda to request a copy.

Directory of Scrutiny Panels

Directory of Scrutiny PanelsI have spent the last few months looking at English social housing providers' websites to see what I can find out about their scrutiny arrangements. It's been a terrific journey!

I have found so many fabulous examples of the work that different panels do - too many to mention here! I have however, put all of this information into an on line directory that is hosted in the members' area of my website.

It was really refreshing to see how many landlords have set up panels and even better, how many landlords and tenants/residents are promoting the fantastic scrutiny work that is being done, so that other residents could see what was going on and could see for themselves the benefits of having scrutiny.

Why have a talented panel and then not show all residents what they are doing and what impact they are having?

However, in some instances, there was very little information at all about the existence of a scrutiny panel. One thing I noticed was that some landlords did not even mention the scrutiny panel in their list of involvement opportunities or other places on the website that you would expect to find information about scrutiny. However, after a thorough search of these websites, I did find some mention of scrutiny panels.

The directory includes details of just under 600 English landlords and information about hundreds of scrutiny panels, many of who have published their review reports.

I am working on adding Welsh and Scottish Landlords at the moment. All of these will be included in the directory by the end of December 2013.

If you want to know more about the directory and how you can access it, please contact me. I promise you, you won't be disappointed!
